Those links will always be labeled "paid link." Using them never costs you anything extra, and the money we may earn never changes what we report or recommend.

How we make money

Policy & Property is an independent publisher. We may earn revenue in these ways:

• Referral or affiliate fees from comparison services, insurers, lenders or other companies when a reader clicks a labeled paid link and completes an action, such as requesting a quote.
• Advertising revenue from the platforms where our videos appear, such as YouTube, if and when we become eligible.

We do not charge readers or viewers for anything, and we do not sell your personal information.

How paid links are labeled

Following the Federal Trade Commission's Endorsement Guides, any link that can earn us money will be labeled "paid link" right next to the link, not only at the bottom of a page. In our videos, we will also say out loud, near the time we mention the tool, that some links are affiliate links. A general disclosure page like this one supplements those labels; it never replaces them.

Commissions do not change our recommendations

Our editorial content is researched and written independently of any business relationship. Specifically:

• No company can pay to be covered, to be covered favorably, or to approve a story before publication.
• We report negative news about partners exactly as we would about anyone else.
• We only list services we would use ourselves or recommend to a family member, and we remove any that no longer meet that bar.
• When we compare options, we tell you what to compare (limits, deductibles, rates, fees) so you can judge any service on its merits, including ones we are not paid by.

We are not a licensed agent, broker or lender

Policy & Property is not a licensed insurance agent, insurance broker, insurance adjuster, mortgage lender, mortgage broker or loan originator. We do not sell, solicit or negotiate insurance, and we do not offer, arrange or approve loans.

When you click a paid link to a comparison service, insurer or lender, any quote, coverage discussion, application or loan offer comes from that company and its licensed professionals, not from us. We do not discuss the specific terms and conditions of any company's policy on its behalf.

Referral fees only

For insurance, we participate only in referral arrangements in which any fee we receive is a fixed amount per referral or per quote request and does not depend on whether you buy a policy. For mortgages and other loans, any compensation is an advertising or lead fee for directing readers to a service; we do not steer anyone to a particular loan product, and we receive nothing based on the terms of any loan you take out.
